Severin Roesen’S (American, B. Prussia, 1816–1872?) Still Life: Flowers And Fruit (1850–55), Featured In The Met’S American Wing And On This Cotton Canvas Zip Pouch, Represents The Artist At His Best. This Exceptionally Large Still Life Depicts Over A Dozen Varieties Of Flowers And Fruits, Which Became More Accessible Thanks To 19Th-Century Improvements In Cultivation And Shipping. Roesen Was A German Immigrant Who Fled The Revolutions Of 1848 For A More Promising Life In The United States.
